ON THE TYPOLOGY OF ARTICLES IN THE RUSSIAN BROCKHAUS AND EFRON ENCYCLOPAEDIC DICTIONARY

The current article presents the results of a study of the types of encyclopaedic articles in the Russian Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopaedic Dictionary (1890–1907). An analysis of existing typologies was carried out based on the first 600 articles of the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopaedic Dictionary. The proposed typology is based on the volume of the articles and the presence of different information zones in them and was developed with all the specifics of the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopaedic Dictionary taken into account. The selected types of articles are described in detail with examples, and the number of articles belonging to each selected type is counted. The results of this research can be applied in the compilation of encyclopaedias and encyclopaedic dictionaries, as well as in study courses addressing problems of text theory.
