CROSS-BORDER EDUCATION: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS FOR RUSSIA AND THE CIS COUNTRIES

At present, there are a number of objective reasons why Russia is interested in stimulating the growth of the education sector in the CIS in view of the next geopolitical confrontation with Western countries. The article presents a theoretical study of cross-border education, identifies challenges and prospects for Russia and the CIS countries. The research goal summarizes historical experience and systematize current trends in the field of cross-border education in the CIS. The research objectives were to analyze the scientific literature on the topic of the study; identification of the main trends in cross-border education, as well as in the scientific generalization of challenges and prospects in this area. The research methodology is based on the methods of the general scientific group (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction), as well as a number of special methods: historiographical analysis of scientific literature on the topic of research, the method of historical retrospection, the method of descriptive analysis. Based on the results, the author concluded that the main challenge for the formation of a single educational space in the CIS countries is the insufficient level of digitalization of the educational process, the lack of unified digital platforms for the placement of international educational programs. The main trend in the development of cross-border education in the CIS is the active participation of Chinese universities in the region, including Confucius Institutes, which in the near future can become a serious competitor for Russian universities, having wide digital opportunities for cross-border education.
