FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE THE FORMATION OF TRANSLATOR'S MENTAL SPACES WHEN WORKING WITH ENGLISH-LANGUAGE TEXTS

This article examines the factors that influence the formation and management of mental spaces in the translation process. Translation, considered through the prism of the theory of mental spaces, is presented as a complex cognitive activity. It requires a deep understanding of the source text, its terminology, and cultural context in order to accurately convey the author's intent to the target audience. The article identifies and analyzes key factors that shape a translator's mental spaces, including the level of language proficiency, cultural knowledge, subject area experience, text type and purpose, cognitive processes, translator experience and training, as well as the use of tools and resources for translating texts. The article argues that successful translation depends on the translator's ability to dynamically create and adapt mental spaces that overcome language and cultural barriers, ultimately recreating the intended meaning in the cognitive structure of the target audience. Inadequate translation caused by a lack of understanding of the source text can hinder the perception and understanding of the author's ideas. Translator's role is to make a choice in favor of interpretation and preserve the stylistic, emotional, and cultural characteristics of the source text.
