Arguments are provided that estimation criteria development of the communicative competence is the essential part of professional foreign language teaching. The article defines a communicative competence, and points out to its vocational character. The author determines approaches to estimation criteria development by the representatives of both the academic and professional communities. Conclusion is made that estimation criteria should be worked out with regard to all interested parties.
