Transfer of odouremes symbolism in literary translation

The article deals with the problem of symbolic meaning transfer in literary translation. The comparative method of ST and TT is applied. The analysis of the novel by Boris Pasternak “Doctor Zhivago” and its translation into the English language gives the possibility to research the peculiarities of translation of odours and their role in the creation of an artistic space of the novel. The comparative analysis provides observations about the modification of odours space of the novel, that influence the quality of translation.
