Conceptual opposition “happiness/sadness” in phraseological units (comparative analysis of the Russian and English languages)

The article aims at describing conceptual opposition “happiness/sadness” expressed by the Russian and English idioms. The author of the paper gives a brief review of the common and culturally specific features of the conceptual opposition under study in the two languages. Proceeding from the carried out analysis, the author comes to the conclusion that despite the fact that conceptualization of emotions in two languages greatly coincides, it is possible to trace certain national symbolic dominants.
