Islam in the soviet state at the end of the 1970s is the middle of the 1980th years. (on the example of the Tatar ASSR and Uzbek SSR)

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the functioning of Muslim associations in the USSR in the late 1970s and the mid-1980s, before fundamental changes in Soviet society began in the framework of the policy of perestroika. The authors, based on materials on the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the Uzbek SSR, revealed common and specific features in the position of Islam in this period in the "internal" regions of the country and in the Central Asian region. The factors that determined the specifics of the period in the framework of the investigated problem are shown. The tendencies that took place within the Muslim associations, as well as the forms and methods of implementing the state policy regarding religion, are considered.
