Turkey’s efforts in “building bridges” between Afghanistan and Pakistan

This article reveals the role of Turkey as a mediator in normalization of Afghanistan-Pakistan relations to establish peace and security in the region. Turkey-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Summit process started in 2007. The issues of economic cooperation, education and interparliamentary cooperation, as well as security situation, are on the agenda of the annual summits. The deterioration of relations between Pakistan and Turkey with the United States, and the U.S. South Asia strategy change have adjusted the work of this format. Since 2015, regular meetings have been discontinued, however Ankara still hopes to resume the work of the process.
