Short story in a communicative system ‘writer – reader’

The article compares the interpretation of the term “short story” in Russian and American literary criticism. It also tells about the properties of the text of a short story – the properties that unite it with other literary texts, and the properties inherent in this literary genre only. Particular attention is paid to the informative capacity and personality of the short story. In conclusion, an assumption is made about the specific features of the vocabulary in the text of the short story.
