Use of authentic video materials as one of the methods of teaching a foreign language at the university

In this scientific article, the authors explore the methodological methods of working with authentic video materials in teaching a foreign language, in particular, in the formation of intercultural competence. The study presents the views of scientists on the model of the student's sociocultural competence, and also considers the analysis of the use of authentic video materials from the point of view of the methodology of teaching English. The authors of the article consider the possibilities of using video materials in teaching a foreign language, taking into account various sociolinguistic factors. Thus, comparative, systemic, structural-functional, axiological methods of comparison are used for research. As a result of the study, the authors come to the conclusion that on the basis of authentic video materials, it is possible to compile a methodological set of exercises that contribute to the assimilation of the lexical and grammatical corpus of the language being studied. Educational materials presented in the form of visual information largely determine the nature of communicants' speech utterances, namely: their social status, the nature of relationships and spatio-temporal conditions of communication. Authentic video materials are as close as possible to the language reality and therefore their use in foreign language lessons is more than justified. No other educational materials can give such a complete picture of the socio-cultural reality of the country of the language being studied and demonstrate the combination of verbal and non-verbal codes of foreign language communication. Thus, the use of authentic audiovisual video materials, which combine visual and auditory perceptual components, contribute to the intensification of the educational process and create favorable conditions for the formation of students' communicative competence.
