This article is devoted to the problem of comparative analysis of different types of initial parts of compound and complex nouns in the process of word formation, and substantive prefixoids and prefixation in languages with different language structures, including Russian, German and Thai. It was found that similar lexico-semantic functions arise from the word-formation. Therefore, the origin of prepositive units affected the overlapping. The purpose of the study was to distinguish between these concepts and to specify the status of the initial parts of compound/complex nouns and substantive prefixoids in languages with different language structures in a comparative aspect. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that the author proposed a new typology of these prepositive units based on their overlapping. This typology is necessary for the formation of a common understanding, criteria for distinguishing prepositive units, as well as for further researches in the word-formation aspect. The methodology of this study was the scientific and research works of modern domestic and foreign authors in line with word formation and lexicology (in Russian - V.V. Lopatin, E.F. Levashov, E.V. Klobukov, S.V. Gudilova, E. A. Zhdanova, in German - S. A. Zhilyuk, Jung Walter, Hensen Walter, G. D. Schmidt, Elsen Khilke and in Thai - A. Singnoy, K. Kriengket, K. Chusuwan). As a result of the study, it was revealed that similarities and differences of the overlapping of the initial parts of compound/complex nouns and substantive prefixoids were found in three languages with different language structures, contributing to the establishment of a new unified typology.
