The article sets out issues reflecting the specifics of the professional activities of a teacher of additional education of a mature age, taking into account the orientation of the program he is implementing (orientation: technical, art, sports, tourist and local history, natural science, social and pedagogical, and others).
The article considers the filling of each of the directions in the conditions of a secondary school. Significant similarities and differences in the main types of educational organizations related to the professional self-realization of a teacher of additional education of mature age in the workplace were analyzed. The main directions of additional education programs implemented in St. Petersburg in secondary schools, in general, as well as the areas in which teachers of additional education of mature age are most involved, whose work in a secondary school is the main and only place of work, are determined. The results of the survey of teachers of further education of mature age working in St. Petersburg on issues of their professional activity are presented.
