Modern English literature represents the most important segment of the cultural component. It covers a variety of areas, including prose, both experimental and conventional, novels, short stories, novellas, and poetry. Literature helps to understand many difficult situations, answer a large number of questions, learn interesting facts about the history, traditions, customs of various countries, as well as distract from everyday routine. Foreign literature expands knowledge, horizons, introduces the peculiarities of the mentality of the people of another country.
The beginning of the 20th century was marked by a surge in English literature. In many countries there have been revolutions that have contributed to new trends in literature. Some of them believed that civilization had come to its logical end, while others, on the contrary, prophesied a new development, a breakthrough.
At the beginning of the 20th century, symbolism developed, realities were not recognized as representatives of the pen. Many believed that reality does not exist, and if it does, it is superficial. Everything that happened was the result of the irrational, the unconscious, the mystical. Transformations took place in man and society - various psychological processes that moved history, the stream of consciousness was inexorable, masterpieces were born. English literature was no exception in this process. It is multifaceted and interesting, somewhat difficult to perceive, but acceptable. A new literary technique arose, which made it possible for a foreign reader to master it better.
