The article deals with the results of a comparative analysis of methods for translating English sports terms into Russian. The purpose of the work is to describe the structure of borrowing the latest Anglicisms in the Russian context, establishing the level of their significance. The most relevant of them are focused in the discourse of sports terminology over the past decades, therefore the object of study of the article is the English terms of sports discourse in the Russian language in the period 2000-2020. The subject of the study was more than 3,000 Anglicisms extracted using a continuous sampling method from monolingual, bilingual explanatory and sports terminological dictionaries. The ways of transforming English terminology in the field of sports vocabulary in modern Russian have not been sufficiently studied, therefore, we believe that this area requires close attention and scientific analysis. The study contributes to efforts to standardize sports terminology. Based on the system-structural research method, the author’s classification of the transformation of the latest Anglicisms in the Russian language system is presented for the first time.
