this article explores the concept of a poetic sign. The views of prominent semiotics (A.A. Potebnya, R. Jacobson, Y.M. Lotman) on the concept of a poetic sign are presented. On this basis, two main types of poetic signs are distinguished: structural signs (elements of the poetic form) and image signs (lexical formations that are larger than or equal to a linguistic sign, have a metalogical character, as well as semantic unity). The main attention in this study is paid to poetic image signs. The poetic image sign is defined and its structure is described. The models of the sign existing in semiotics (monolateral, bilateral and triadic) are described, and the most well-known models of the sign presented in the works of C.S. Pierce, W. Morris, C.K. Ogden and I.A. Richards are compared. On their basis, a five-component model of a poetic sign is created, its elements are listed. The elements are the following: the representamen (the sound-image or signifier), the representamen basis (a set of significant features of the referent, sufficient for the recipient to understand what is being discussed), the representamen quasi-basis, (a set of significant features of the referent of the linguistic signs that make up the poetic sign), as well as the primary interpretant (the mental representation of the referent, which is actualized by the set of linguistic signs that make up the poetic sign) and the secondary interpretant (the mental representation of the referent, which is actualized by the poetic sign). It is concluded that this model can be useful for further research of the poetic text.
