THE USE OF AUTHENTIC VIDEO MATERIALS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES WITH THE PURPOSE OF FORMING COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF NON-LINGUISTIC UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

The article is devoted to considering the issue of using authentic video materials in foreign language classes in order to develop the communicative competence of non-linguistic university students. The relevance of this article is beyond doubt, since the use of authentic video materials helps expand students’ vocabulary, consolidate grammatical norms, assimilate linguistic and cultural information, develop listening, speaking, reading, writing skills, increase motivation to learn a foreign language, and develop critical thinking. The author reveals the essence of the ‘communicative competence’ concept and its significance in the work activities of future university graduates. Particular attention is paid to the algorithm for conducting classes using authentic video materials. The author has compiled a set of exercises that reveal the essence of the video method and are aimed at better assimilation of language material. It is noted that the use of authentic video materials in foreign language classes is also associated with the emergence of such problems as the linguistic complexity of the content, the loss of its novelty and relevance, the insufficient level of students’ language training, and the time expenditure of a teacher.
