ENTRY OF THE KALMYKS INTO RUSSIA AS A TARGET BASIS FOR INCLUDING THEIR COMBAT POTENTIAL INTO THE RUSSIAN MILITARY ORGANIZATION

The article is devoted to the problem of the Kalmyks joining Russia, the target basis of which was their combat potential. Thanks to the efforts of the Russian government at the beginning of the 17th century. stable military-political relations began to be established between the Kalmyks and the Russian administration. The government was guided by political considerations regarding the combat potential of the Kalmyks, believing that they would find defenders of the southern borders of the state from numerous raids by Asian nomads and Crimean Tatars. Having settled in the southern steppes, the Kalmyks became part of the Russian military organization and became a reliable shield for the south and southeast of the country.
