The paper considers the problem of the formation and development of the administrative-territorial structure of North Ossetia in the 1920-1930s, which has been little studied in regional historiography. The study traces changes in the district division of the North Ossetian Autonomous Region during the period of the new economic policy. The authors focus on the process of disaggregation of individual districts of the region in the 1930s, in which two stages are distinguished: 1934 and 1937-1938. Based on party records, the specific historical content of this process is examined. The source base of the research was formed by decrees and resolutions of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee, reference books on the administrative-territorial division of the USSR, and office materials of the North Ossetian Regional Committee of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks), introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
