TRANSFORMATION OF RELATIONS BETWEEN THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH AND THE STATE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 18TH CENTURY

The article defines the transformation of the relationship between the Russian Orthodox Church and the state at the beginning of the 18th century. The genesis of the relationship between the state and the church is described, the role of the church in strengthening state power is defined. The synodal period under consideration had its shortcomings and achievements. By the end of the 17th century, the Russian Church had accumulated a significant number of internal problems related to its position in society and the state, as well as the almost complete absence of a system of religious and church education and training. The period of the 18th century became a time of difficult trials for all Christian denominations, when the church needed to find its place in a rapidly changing Christian society, religiously comprehend the new time and try to resolve numerous issues related to the secular world's departure from the church.
