FORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF SVERDLOVSK AS A CENTER OF TANK PRODUCTION DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR (1941-1945)

The article is devoted to the consideration of the history of the formation and development of the tank industry in the city of Sverdlovsk during the Great Patriotic War. Sverdlovsk became one of the three largest centers of tank building in the Urals due to the presence in the city of such large machine-building plants as Uralmash and the Ural Turbine Plant, on the premises of which, as a result of evacuation, the capacities of armored hull and diesel engine production were deployed. Sverdlovsk did short run production of light tanks, but it became most famous for its T-34 medium tanks and self-propelled guns based on its chassis. In addition, a lot of tank guns systems were designed developed and manufactured in Sverdlovsk, as far as armored hulls for heavy and medium tanks were assembled.
