INDEPENDENT WORK OF STUDENTS IN A TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY: ESSENCE AND PRINCIPLES OF ITS ORGANIZATION

Object: To consider the essence and role of independent work in the training of qualified specialists. Identification of indicators of cognitive independence, as well as the basic principles of organizing independent work of students at a technical university. Methods: analysis of pedagogical, psychological and methodological literature on the research topic; generalization of pedagogical experience. Findings: A comparative analysis of the definitions of the concept of "independent work" formulated by various researchers is carried out, their common and distinctive points are highlighted. The external and internal signs of independent work are considered and indicators of cognitive independence as a result of the considered type of activity are given. Taking into account modern trends in education, the basic principles of organizing independent work of students of a technical university aimed at training qualified specialists are formulated. Conclusions: Independent work is the main tool for improving the effectiveness of specialist training, which in the educational process fulfills its main purpose – the development of students' cognitive independence. The principles of practice orientation, which form the basis of the study, contribute to the training of qualified specialists with a high level of professional knowledge, skills, as well as personal qualities and capable of further self-education.
