The article is dedicated to the development of reading abilities in the native (Yakut) language among children in a bilingual learning environment. It emphasizes the significance of parental assistance and their role in the creation of balanced bilingual communication for children, as well as the development of literacy in both languages.
Results from a study on the linguistic situation in families, along with problems and factors influencing the quality of literacy and choice of language for reading among bilingual individuals, are presented. To identify the characteristics of bilingualism among children speaking different languages and how it affects literacy, the author outlines promising areas for in-depth research using contemporary methods that guarantee the reliability, consistency, and validity of data (based on comparisons of MRI, EEG, eye tracking, etc.).
