The article presents a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of traditional and multimodal methods in teaching professionally-oriented reading in English. Based on an experimental study involving 120 students of technical specialties (60 in the experimental and 60 in the control groups), a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of the multimodal approach was conducted. The study showed a significant superiority of the multimodal method in key indicators: text comprehension (an increase of 27.4% versus 10.4%), reading speed (an increase of 67 words/min versus 25 words/min), and acquisition of professional vocabulary (312 words versus 178 words). A strong positive correlation (r=0.78, p<0.01) was found between the frequency of using multimodal tools and the improvement in reading performance. A three-stage methodology for teaching professionally oriented reading has been developed and tested, combining traditional and digital work formats. Practical recommendations for introducing a multimodal approach into the educational process are offered.
Keywords:professionally oriented reading, multimodal approach, English language, digital learning technologies, professional vocabulary, learning efficiency.
