The article considers the role of cross-cultural communication in studying foreign languages at the university. Integration of language teaching with cultural analysis forms a set of competencies in students necessary for professional activity. Organization of cross-cultural communication in foreign language classes is realized through three key functions that are interconnected and complement each other. The academic-communicative function ensures the development of students' ability to create and interpret academic texts taking into account rhetorical devices, stylistic norms and genre features of scientific communication accepted in the international academic environment. The professional-oriented function is aimed at mastering the strategies of oral and written professional interaction. Its implementation includes the use of simulation cases based on authentic business texts, organization of video conferences to model international negotiations, as well as collective project activities based on real professional scenarios. The didactic-cultural function uses the cultural component as a didactic resource to improve the effectiveness of the educational process.
