The article is aimed at considering the basic principles of using the lexical approach while teaching a foreign language in a non-linguistic university. The author examines the definition of lexical approach and highlights its effectiveness for forming all types of speech activity. The article details the stages of work on English-language financial terms. The author lists the opportunities of this approach while achieving the objectives of professional communication in a foreign language. The author concludes that lexical approach contributes to the formation of a skill to guess the word meanings on the basis of a certain context as well as the development of associative, critical and creative thinking. Significant attention is paid to the effective tools and methods for learning English terminology of the economic and financial sector within the application of lexical approach.
