FORMATION OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS OF A NON-LINGUISTIC UNIVERSITY BASED ON THE STUFY OF LANDSCAPE DESCRIPTIONS OF ENGLISH-LANGUAGE WORKS OF THE DETECTIVE GENRE

Within the framework of this article, the specifics of the development of competence of students of a non-linguistic university based on the study of landscape descriptions of English-language works of the detective genre are considered. The analysis of the concept of foreign language competence, the features of this phenomenon, its role in foreign language education in higher education is carried out. The special role of the development of the considered competence in non-linguistic faculties is noted. Attention is drawn to the concept and specifics of landscape descriptions in English detective stories. The options for using various stylistic and expressive means of a foreign language are considered using the example of landscape descriptions, the value of this language material for the development of foreign language competence of non-linguistic university students, their translation skills, understanding the coherence and semantics of the text. It is concluded that the study of landscape can be the foundation for the development of students' foreign language competence, replenishment of their thesaurus, development of their lexical and stylistic skills.
