The article reveals the issues of the formation of functional literacy in the course of students performing laboratory and practical work in biology. With the introduction of the updated Federal State Educational Standard, the creation of Federal work programs in biology based on the Federal Basic Educational Program, as well as the updating of the content of biological education in the basic school, a list of laboratory and practical work was introduced for students to perform when studying each of the sections of school biology. However, biology teachers have difficulties organizing and conducting a complete list of laboratory and practical work, despite the fact that it is precisely when performing observations and biological experiments in the framework of laboratory work that functional literacy can be developed. The data of scientific research are presented, indicating the relevance of the chosen problem and its solvability through the introduction of a new laboratory workshop with digital addition and focused on the development of functional literacy of 5th and 6th grade students.
