EVIDENCE OF THE RECEPTION OF ROMAN LAW IN THE MONUMENTS OF ANCIENT RUSSIA

The article examines the evidence of the reception of Roman law in the monuments of Ancient Rus, which serve as the origins of legislation and played an important role in the formation of the entire legal system. The reception of Roman law influenced the development of various branches of law, such as family law, criminal law, civil law, administrative law, and procedural law. The article provides an overview of ancient Russian legal monuments, including the treaties of Prince Oleg and Prince Igor with the Greeks in 911 and 944, the Russkaya Pravda, the Kormchie Books, and the Metropolitan Justice. The article outlines the discussions between supporters and opponents of the influence of Roman law on Old Russian legislation. It highlights the reception of Byzantine law in the development of legal culture and the formation of key institutions of Old Russian legislation, which, although not directly and comprehensively applicable, served as a model for creating a new legal system in Russia.
