Japanese military burials of the second world war on the territory of Khabarovsk region

After the Second world war on Soviet territory as prisoners of war were thousands of Japanese soldiers of the Kwantung army, which was sent to the rear of the camp of the NKVD. Khabarovsk Krai became one of the regions that accepted and placed former soldiers of the Japanese army. Not all Japanese waited back home during the repatriation 1945 – 1956. Many died on foreign land to them. The article notes the history of Japanese burials on the territory of Khabarovsk Krai after the Second world war, considers the problem of the implementation of the agreement between the government of the USSR and the government of Japan on persons in camps for prisoners of war. Focuses on the work on the survey of burial sites of Japanese citizens who fought against the Soviet Union in 1939-1945, exhumation of their remains and export to Japan. The article uses the materials of interviews and the personal archive Potapova G. N., engaged from the first day of signing of the above-mentioned Agreement on its implementation in the Khabarovsk territory. The study of the issue of Japanese military graves is important for understanding modern relations and strengthening friendly ties between the peoples of neighboring countries.
