The question of the nature of language change is one of the most relevant in linguistics. Language is sensitive to all changes taking place in society, whose life is reflected in the language. Over the last decades language changes occur more frequently in many Western European languages. There is a continuous process of violations of standards, apparition of new words and expressions, large-scale shifts in the lexical meaning of existing ones. A sophisticated language speaker may be well aware of those language changes and deliberately adapt to them when switching from one tongue to another.
