The reflection of the 1863-1864’s Polish rebellion in Russian conservative periodical press

The article examins the attitude of the conservative Russian press to the Polish rebellion that occurred in 1863. The author analyzes the differences in the positions of the main Russian conservative publicists about the causes of the rebellion and the methods that could prevent the subsequent unrest. The reasons of the changings in the attitude of Russian society to the Polish national liberation movement after 1861 are also examined in the article. The author makes a conclusion that Polish and Russian na-tionalist sentiments have the same basis. The role of public opinion in the suppression of the Polish rebellion is underlined in the article.
