“Talfik Al-Ahbar…” by Murad Ramzi: Despite Censorship Restrictions and Judicial Persecution

The questions considered in the article concern the censorial persecution of Murad Ramzi’s historical writing “Talfik Al-Ahbar” published in 1908. Based on the archival materials consisting of the correspondence between the Kazan Temporary Committee on the Print Affaires with the Saratov Judicial Chamber’s Prosecutor, the Ufa and Kazan chancelleries, the Orenburg, Kazan and Ufa governors, and the Chief Department on Print Affaires, the reasons for the given writing’s censorial ban, and the legal proceedings specifics of its publication case are analyzed. Also, there are highlighted the circumstances of Murad Ramzi’s personal criminal accountability, the outcomes and consequences of the respective judicial decision, which affected both the author’s and his writing’s fates.
