The article gives a multidimensional analysis of the causes of alcohol consumption by young people at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries (by the example of the Urals population). The ways of solving the problem of alcoholism among the young generation of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as part of the activities of the authorities, the church and the educational environment (church parochial schools) are considered. The main idea of the authors is to analyze and identify methods of prevention, combating the social ailment, the possibilities of which can be applied in modern conditions.
