Tolstoy's increased interest in Vedic spirituality at the turn of the century is associated with the expansion of the ideological sphere of the writer: acquaintance with the works of ancient Indian classics: «Ramayana», «Mahabharata», «Bhagavad Gita»; with the works of Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, Bharati, Abhedananda. In the same period, Tolstoy develops an original doctrine, accumulating elements of the teachings of Vedanta, Yama, Niyama, Karma Yoga.
This article presents the experience of a comparative analysis of the principles of Karma Yoga and the doctrine of Tolstoy. It is proved that Karma Yoga is the methodological basis of Leo Tolstoy's doctrine.
Keywords:Karma, «Bhagavad Gita», Karma Yoga, unselfishness, universal good, service to God, spiritual enlightenment.
