The concept of a value picture of the world is defined in the article as a derivative of a picture of the world. And therefore an excursion must be taken to the history of the life of the latter in linguistic studies. The most frequent in that case is the interpretation of a picture of the world as knowledge, which is structured in the mind of a human in the form of concepts and represents a collection of concepts. In this connection, the concept of a value picture of the world is defined as knowledge in a value perspective and as a set of concepts that represents, in a meaningful sense, knowledge of values and antivalues. Description of the value picture of the world requires to appeal to the category of values. The latters are defined in this paper from the point of view of philosophical anthropology, sociology, and culturology and are considered as an object, ideal and attitude
