Chinese motifs in the story of B.A. Pilnyak "St. Peter Burkh"

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Chinese motifs appeared and developed in Russian literature mainly under the influence of the West. In the late XIX and early XX century, generally in the East, and China in particular, was re-evaluated in the Russian consciousness. Pilnyak is one of such writers who began to consider the problems of Russia in the context of "East-West". In this article, the motif of the recurrence of history and the motif of idol worship as the main motives for mastering the Chinese theme in Pilnyak's story “St Petersburg Burkh” are highlighted. In addition, an attempt was made to examine some of the artistic features of this extraordinary work.
