Euphemistic function of metonymy in the English economic discourse

a distinctive feature of economic discourse is not only the abundance of terminology, clichés, indices, but also the use of meliorative communicative strategy, which manifests itself in a stable need for the use of euphemisms in the explanation of negative economic realities. The implementation of the euphemistic softening function contributes to the fact that metonymic ambiguity is a marker of implicit meaning. There are several types of metonymic transfer (local, causal, attributive, temporal, partitive). The analysis of euphemisms in the English language media has shown that the most productive is the partitive type of metonymy, but the restoration of the link between the tabooed denotate and euphemism may be difficult due to the implicitness and compression of euphemistic metonymy.
