cognitive abilities are the qualities and properties of a person that determine the effective mastery of any type of activity. A priority place in the structure of cognitive abilities belongs to the ability to create images, reflect the properties of objects, the ratio of leading features, parts, situations. The authors believe that cognitive abilities develop most successfully in the process of music perception, since perception as a process is associated with comprehension and awareness of the phenomena of the surrounding world. The purpose of the study was to identify and experimentally test a set of methods aimed at developing cognitive abilities in older preschool children in the process of music perception. The article discusses the specifics of the development of cognitive abilities in children of senior preschool age, and proposes a set of methods that contribute to the development of cognitive abilities in the process of music perception. Approbation of a set of methods on the basis of MADOU DS No. 37 in Nizhnevartovsk confirms their effectiveness. The results of the study can be used to improve the educational process in preschool educational institutions.
