This article compares the language of the Gavlovič᾿s poetic work The Shepherd's School, written before codification of the Slovak literary language by A. Bernolák, with the edited and published text of this work by M. Rešetka. The analysis showed that, on the one hand, M. Rešetka seeks to eliminate genetic bohemisms from the text, and on the other hand, he does not follow the codification in everything. This confirms the thesis that the codification of A. Bernolák was only the basis for the formation of the norm of literary language, which was formed directly in the process of its functioning.
