The article concentrates on the analysis of reduplicative words in French.
Reduplicates are represented by different parts of speech, but first of all, they are nouns expressing a person, as well as his/her physical, psychological
characteristics, kinship, professional affiliation, etc., which confirms the
substantive style of the French language.
Modern French reduplicates are characteristic of children's speech as well as the sociolect of the youth. In French, reduplicates function as lexemes with a
diminutive meaning (hypocoristic words). They are characterized by their
axiological content and may belong to different stylistic subtypes of colloquial French (jargonisms, colloquialisms, professional words).
French reduplicates are also used as expressive and emotionally evaluative words.
