THE USE OF NON-PHRASEOLOGICAL TRANSLATION METHODS IN TRANSLATING B.L. PASTERNAK'S PROSE PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS INTO ENGLISH

Kozhanova Larisa Vladimirovna  (Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor. Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages Voronezh State University of Engineering Technologies, Voronezh, Russia )

The article deals with non-phraseological methods of translation in translating the phraseological units of B.L. Pasternak’s prose from Russian into English. Both positive and negative aspects of using these methods in the translation of phraseological units are analyzed. The translation of the same phraseological unit of the Russian language by different translators using different translation methods is also considered. It is noted that when using a descriptive method of translation, the translator manages to convey not only the meaning of a phraseological unit, but also its expressiveness and stylistic coloring, while when using loan traslation, such property of a phraseological unit as stability is lost. The material considered showed that the translation of a significant number of Russian phraseological units by English lexical means is caused, first of all, by the the lack of phraseological correspondences in the translation language - equivalents and analogues.

Keywords:phraseological units, loan translation, full loan translation, incomplete loan translation, descriptive method of translation, prose works, texts of translation, expressiveness, stylistic coloring
