The article is devoted to the forming of a group of museums in Siberia in the last quarter of the XIX- the beginning of the XX сentury, which were under the jurisdiction of the city dumas. Special attention is given to the foundation and development of the Minusinsk museum – one of the first museums in Russia, supported by the city self-government bodies. The role of the city self-government bodies in foundation and material and financial support of museum activities in Yeniseisk, Nerchinsk, Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Blagoveshchensk, Verkhneudinsk is revealed. It is emphasized that in connection with the lack of funding the development of the museums largely depended on the personal involvement and organizational skills of their founders. Further steps to improve the financial situation of museums, strengthening ties with Siberian scientific societies are described.
