FOOD SUPPLY TO THE URBAN POPULATION OF THE MIDDLE VOLGA REGION in 1941-1945

In 1941-45, the workers of the rear cities, through their heroic work, brought the achievement of victory over the enemy closer. The food supply of the urban population was an important factor in the economic and social life of the USSR during the war period. The article uses unpublished materials from the regional archival repositories of the Middle Volga region and the central archives of the Russian Federation. This made it possible to fully recreate the picture of the food supply of the citizens of the Middle Volga region in extreme wartime conditions. The activities of central and local authorities aimed at solving problems in the food supply system of urban residents have been studied. It is concluded that, despite the difficulties of the first war years, the food crisis was overcome in general.
