This article analyzes the possible ways of using cognitive linguistics’ ideas for effective teaching of foreign languages to students of technical majors. The benefits and effectiveness based on philosophical and psychological approaches are considered, which emphasizes the importance of using cognitive methods in teaching English in higher education. The typology of conceptual metaphors is presented and the results of their implementation in the educational process are analyzed. The authors highlight the potential ways of integrating cognitive linguistics into the educational process of students specializing in technical fields.
