THE PECULIARITIES OF THE TRANSLATION OF THE VERB TO SAY IN DIALOGUES INTO RUSSIAN (BY THE STORY «THE DEVOTED FRIEND» BY O. WILDE)

The article is dedicated to the analysis of the translation of the verb say that introduces the direct speech in dialogues into Russian. The purpose of the article is to reveal the language means to achieve an adequate translation of the verb say in the dialogues in the literary text with the help of the comparative analysis. The scientific novelty lies in the comparative analysis of the examples of the translation of the verb said in the short story «The Devoted Friend» by O. Wilde into Russian. The research is based on the 48 examples of the basic verb said in the English story and reveals that the translation technique employed in translation into Russian is concretisation, which demonstrates a wide range of the verbs of speech in Russian, which are various in its emotional colour and are chosen by the translator according to the context.
