CITY AND INDIVIDUAL IN V.S. MAKANEN'S WORKS

The article examines the philosophical problems that arise in the relationship between individual and the urban space surrounding him, posed in the works of V.S. Makanin «The Tale of the Old Village», «An Outlet», «Anti-Leader», «Where the Sky Meets the Hills», «Laz» and «Underground, or a Hero of Our Time». The author identifies three aspects of the problem: «The City as the Great Destroyer»; «The city as a showcase of humanity»; «Crowd and personality in the city». The writer aims to analyze the mental crisis of urban residents who are trying to understand the meaning of their own in the environment. This approach helps to better understand the problems of the modern city and reveal the metaphysics of life.
