The article substantiates the impracticability of spirituality without teaching virtues; it dwells upon the influence of human spirituality on culture; it argues that one of the criteria for spiritual decay is the loss of virtues by a person. It is displayed that teaching virtues, which prevents dissolution of spiritual human principles, is required by today’s life; the paper provides that the revival of traditions of teaching virtues, described in works by such thinkers like Socrates, D. Didro, John Locke and others, is one of the means of restoring morality, teaching virtues as a way of spiritual personal formation. The essence of virtue is considered, which consists in the fact that the virtue of an individual should serve the goals of his people, country, and civilization as a whole, accept people as they are, and also learn to see in people the positive things that they possess, but cannot show for themselves.
