CENSUS CAMPAIGNS IN THE STEPPE REGION IN THE LAST THIRD OF THE 19TH – EARLY 20TH CENTURIES

The article examines census campaigns in the last third of the 19th – early 20th centuries in the Steppe Region. Attention is paid to one-day censuses: their organization and methodological support; specific features of census work are identified. Beginning in the late 19th century, sectoral statistical accounting developed. As a result of the study, it was determined that the obtained statistical information acted as the most important strategic resource in organizing the management of the region and its colonization.
