An important milestone in the history of the liberation movement, socio-political and philosophical thought of Russia in the first quarter of the 19th century was the activity of the noble revolutionary Decembrists. They made a significant contribution to various cultures, including the philosophy of history, forcing a rethinking of many socio-political and socio-cultural processes of both their contemporaries and subsequent generations. In their political aspirations and programmatic texts, the Decembrists were guided by French and English political thought associated with the Enlightenment. One of the first and most important historiosophical problems of Russian thought was to clarify the meaning of human history in general and the meaning of Russian history in particular. They were characterized by a high level of historical self-awareness, a pronounced sense of historicism, and an affirmation of the value of the historical memory of society. The historiosophical ideas of the Decembrists were an important milestone in the development of the historical self-awareness of the intelligentsia.
