the article deals with the socio-economic development of Dinskoy district of Krasnodar region in the second half of the 20th century in the context of the completion of the modernization transition in the USSR. A specific example explains the paradoxical contradiction: unprecedented government investments in the Soviet village did not lead to a proportional increase of the key production indicators. Numerous attempts to intensify the agro-industrial complex by the party leadership are analyzed, and the reasons for their failures are identified. At the same time, the successful experience of mechanization and chemicalization of agriculture is highlighted, and the coherent relationship between the growth of the forage production and livestock industries is studied. Moreover, numerous social problems in the Dinskoy district are revealed: a reduction in the commissioning of new residential areas, numerous problems in the work of the housing and communal complex, deficiencies in housekeeping services and an increase in crime rates. The lack of real motivation among workers is considered as an important and underestimated factor in slowing down the economic development of the Soviet village.
